Cleft Palate Nipple System (Pigeon Bottle)
    Respironics, Inc. (800) 345-6443
    Parent Line
    (888) 766-8443
A disk between the latex free flexible bottle and the cross cut teat creates a one-way flow of liquid from the bottle to the teat. Adjusting the cap/collar regulates the rate of flow. Milk flow is decreased by tightening the cap and increased by loosening the cap. The teat has a thick side and a thin side. The thick side is placed against the palate and the thin side against the tongue. The thin side makes it possible for babies to self feed with only a slight compression of the teat. Teat and controls can be purchased without the pigeon bottle and will fit standard bottles.

Can be ordered by calling the toll free number or through the internet: www.childmed.com

    Special Needs Feeder (Haberman)

    Medela
    (800) 435-8316
A disk between the flexible bottle and specially designed valve and teat adjust liquid flow to suit babys needs. A one-way valve prevents flooding and overwhelming the baby. Aligning the indicators on the teat with babys nose regulates the rate of flow. The greatest milk flow is created when the longest line on the teat is aligned with babys nose. Milk flow is stopped when the shortest line on the teat is aligned with babys nose. Bottle may be squeezed to increase volume of liquid in teat. Also available with a smaller teat (mini version) for smaller or premature babies. NOTE: Before beginning to feed, the teat should be squeezed while in an upright position, then inverted and released to fill teat and eliminate air in teat.

Can be ordered by calling the toll free number. Information available through internet: www.medela.com

E.S.S.R. Method Enlargement, Stimulate, Swallow, Rest. The ESSR method can be used with any standard baby bottle and teat. Enlargement - The hole in the teat is enlarged by turning inside out and cross cutting an X about 1/2 cm long. The filled bottle is turned upside down to test that a steady drip is created. Stimulate - While holding baby in an upright position, the teat is gently rubbed against the babys lower lip and inserted into the babys mouth. Swallow - The baby is allowed to swallow normally, having received the liquid without using excess energy. Rest. The babys facial expressions must be monitored for indication when a rest is necessary. Just before the baby gags the eyebrows will elevate and the forehead wrinkle. The bottle should immediately be lowered and possibly removed allowing the baby to swallow. Eventually the baby will control the flow of liquid with his/her tongue. + Any standard baby bottle and teat N/A
